Heavy rain = great ride!

Posted by desflurane on October 2, 2015

As I mentioned before, we are having a major drought here in the west. That doesn’t mean that it never rains. Yesterday was proof of that.

A storm rolled through the Sierras, liberally dumping precip as it went.

Uncharacteristically, I had the day off and following a very pleasant lunch with the Mrs., I was headed toward the mountains for a bit of adventure!

We hit the same area that has been so good to us lately, in the mountains separating Lake Tahoe from the city of Truckee. The trails are spectacular to begin with – throw in a little rain and you have the makings of a truly epic ride. That is exactly what we had!

We hit a stretch of single track that I know well. It leads to the cliffs overlooking Squaw Valley (I’ve ousted photos from there). Ben was handling the tight track and slippery shale without issues, so we connected to another trail I had spotted on earlier outings, but had never ridden.

Surprisingly, the new (to us) section got better and better! The scenery was incredible, the trail was tight and technical! What more could you ask?

We came to a hillside covered with loose shale. The trail cut diagonally upward then across its top. Ben broke out his iPhone and shot some video as I worked my way past his bike and across the top. Of course the camera never does justice, but – Prepare to not be all that amazed…

Tell me where I've gone wrong... (please!)
