GPS mount update

Posted by desflurane on February 4, 2013

So it has been a year or more since I cobbled together a mount for my Garmin GPS. it turned out quite nicely (if I say so myself!)

Here is what it looks like:

I’ve been thinking about this because Dougie has been asking if there are any special items I need mounted on the bike before I get there. Beyond what he has already done to this bike I really can’t think of anything more – except my GPS mount. After a year of pretty hard use (aggressive riding, aggressive crashes, and generally being ignored) I’m convinced that my initial goal of creating a bomb-proof mounting system has been achieved.

I’m pondering knocking out another one or two that are a touch more “cosmetically appealing” and taking them along – in case somebody else wants one. The RAM mounts were quite common over there, so maybe…

At any rate, this is the mount I’m going to use. Not once has the GPS been knocked out of its cradle nor has it caused me any inconvenience whatsoever. Near the centerline of the bike seems to be a relatively safe spot, and the low-profile nature of the mount keeps it out of harms way.
