Ignition map switches rule, OK?

Posted by desflurane on September 14, 2010

So I rode my usual haunt of Dog Valley this afternoon. The weather was nice – sunny but about 75deg – the dirt was ultra sandy and even talc-silty. These loose conditions REALLY highlighted the ignition map switch’s utility.

While climbing some fairly steep, loose hills I was able to simply flip the switch and feel the traction! While there wasn’t any MORE traction, the traction I had didn’t vanish when I hit the throttle a little bit.

I buzzed right up a long slope covered in fist-sized rocks lubricated with fine sand. This hill has given me trouble even when the dirt is good! While I had to really hang on and “steer with my feet” a lot, I got right up no problem.

I’m definitely a fan!

I got the Bauer switch because (as I mentioned before) it has “High” and “Low” written on it rather than “On” and “Off.” I discovered that it just has some cheesy labels stuck on over the other lettering (see picture #2). Oh well… it was actually cheaper than the same switch elsewhere.

Tell me where I've gone wrong... (please!)
